PSA Master-ClassesThe Public Service Academy prides itself on being thought leaders and recognising the needs of the public sector. We have been responsible for a number of high profile, brilliantly received events over the past years. Over the past few years we have run masterclasses on:
The PSA hosted two half-day mini master-classes on the Wellbeing and Resilience agenda facilitated by leading academic and psychologist Professor Derek Mowbray. The aim of the sessions was to build the Wellbeing and Resilience agenda into strategic thinking and to build corporate and personal resilience to improve wellbeing and performance. This was a follow-on from the highly successful “Building a resilient organis ation with resilient employees” master-class hosted by the PSA in June 2012. The development of Leadership capacity within the region has been a key feature of the PSA over the years. As far back as March 2006 we hosted a Transformational Leadership conference at Gateshead’s Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art facilitated by the internationally acclaimed leadership guru – Beverly Alimo-Metcalf. In June 2007, Richard Olivier (son of Laurence Olivier) delivered a highly memorable master-class, based around Transformational Leadership, using The Tempest as a basis for his unique approach. Participants cited the event to be "wonderfully original and thought provoking", memorable and inspirational. In March 2013 Olivier Mythodrama were again used to deliver an Inspirational Leadership master-class and more recently, in May 2013, Ben Page and Christopher Howell followed this up with “Leadership, Happines s and a Bit of Magic” which received great acclaim. IMG_0006In December 2012, keynote motivational speaker Michael Heppel challenged and inspired PSA partners to think and act differently in "Delivering the edge in Customer Care". In March 2012. Paul McGee, also known as the SUMO guy, delivered a master-class on “Coping with change through challenging times” , The event was focussed on dealing with change, building better relationships, developing a resilient attitude to life, maintaining morale and motivation, dealing with stress, inspiring confidence, releasing potential, building character and creating possibilities. In June 2011, the PSA hosted a conference entitled "Moving Lean Forward". The event was used to showcase the use of Lean principles in organisations. The conference provided real-life examples of how lean has been applied in organisations, and how even though it originated in manufacturing, it's theories and principles can benefit any process - including those in back offices. Guest speakers from around the UK descri bed how they have applied lean successfully. The day also included videos and explanations of lean from industry leading experts "Bourton Group", a surgery session for people to pose their problems and a panel discussion for any questions left over at the end of the day! In May 2010 the PSA hosted a social networking based conference. The aim of the day was to highlight the capabilities of social networking and other new forms of technology, in terms of improving service delivery, reaching more customers and generally bringing the organisations well and truly into the 21st century! Keynot e speaker of the day, Russell Prue, gave a rousing presentation giving delegates plenty to think about in terms of technology employed within their own organisations.
